My 14 week old silkie hen got her toe injured. It’s totally my fault and I’m so upset and don’t know what to do. I’m a new chicken mom so i don’t really have a medical kit on hand yet.
Here’s what happened. I went out to check them all out for bed and put some fans in the coop because it’s hot. The coop is a resin shed for reference. Well the 5 silkies like to sleep piled infront of the door to get into the coop. When i went to shut the door to go back inside my little baby had her toe in the way and i didn’t realize it and it got jammed and she screamed. She started lifting her foot up in pain. So i grabbed her and checked and saw a little bit of blood. Very little. but under her toe looked skinned and the top of her toe is like descaled. It looks painful. She won’t walk or stand on it now.
I brought her inside and cleaned it gently with a wet tissue and i had nothing really on hand so all i could do was put some petroleum jelly on it, a little piece of gauze and wrapped it in the self stick wrap and a little piece of medical tape.
She was so stressed from the whole thing she was panting so bad and mouth open. She’s out with the others in the coop now but still won’t move. I’m just so upset i can’t believe this happened.
Please tell me what to do
