Mine never did- For three years in a row, my hens sat on dud eggs- and would have sat until Christmas. I finally would steal one and crack it in the woods. They would just be warm raw eggs, nothing even started. Then I would have to take the rest and dispose of them far away, to not lure predators. The hens never seemed fazed and would just get back to life before eggs. I then learned to start tracking the days a little better, instead of waiting and hoping for weeks past due date. Now my hens have hatched babies the last two years. Good luckPlease can someone tell me if a Peahen will eventually leave her nest of eggs after the 30 day gestation time is overdue. I cannot find anything on the internet. She has been sitting on fertile eggs but not sure if her are chicks alive. Would greatly appreciate some feedback/advice. She is not completely safe where she nests (literally we are sleeping outside at night to keep the predators away).
I don't know of a way, but there are others here who know a lot more than I do. Post your question on one of the other on- going threads under "peafowl". There are some very experienced people out there. I was very hesitant to crack that first egg, but figured, it was just one of six. I was so nervous, so I understand.
she was so skinny and there was just nothing we could do. if we took the eggs she stole other eggs and sat. wouldnt eat food infront of her or drink - my daughter says she died of a broken heart.
