I have a hen that I found almost three days ago laying in a corner in the coop. Any other time I've found hens like that they were dead by the next morning. I went out a few minutes ago and she is still alive and moving around a little but it's very little. She doesn't seem to be able to stand and I think she may be egg bound. I have one hen that lays very large eggs and I'm assuming it's her since I'm not getting the large eggs. Anything I can do for her? How long do they live when egg bound? I hate to make her suffer. I moved her today into a cage in the shed by herself and gave her water and food. If she is egg bound and consistantly lays large eggs is this going to be an ongoing problem if she lives through this one?

i have heard people mention a warm soak in water will sometimes help her relax enough to pass the egg....can you feel an egg in there if you gently press on her tummy?....sorry! wish i could help!...someone will chime in and help....

..good luck!

can you feel an egg? Do you have any ky jelly available if you feel an egg? Does she have any other symptoms? Is her vent pasty or swollen?

Her tail area is dirty with something but I'm not sure what. I've never inspected a chicken close enough to tell you anything about that area...sorry.

Maybe you could use some paper towels and a bucket of warm water and gently clean her vent area. She might fight you at first but she should relax after a bit and let you clean her up. Then you can at least see what's going on.
