We have got Cornesh X but we dont think they have the best tast. They are nice meat birds but not what we want. What have been you fav meat birds? Thanks For the help!

We have to order chickens in the next week!!! So PLEAS HELP!!

I raise Cornish X. If you're looking for a different taste, from what I've been told, you're out of luck. Other breeds taste the same, just with varying amounts of meat.

Well since taste is subjective... what was not good about the ones you ate? Too dry, too tough, too firm too ? Also what are you used to eating?

The "Taste of Meat" can be altereted by what you feed the meat animal.

If the Cornish Cross is willing to eat grass and bugs in the grass it, will taste different then one fed only bagged feed. Now wether this taste difference is good or bad is subjective opinion of the person doing the tasting.

Flavor is also affected by the age of the chicken when butchered. Most of the people I talk to say that a CX will have the same flavor as any of the colored range chickens if it is the same age, 10-14 weeks being optimum. Problem with 10-14 weeks and the CX is the health problems. Protein levels would need to be majorly dropped and even then you may have a high mortality rate. I am raising both breeds right now so I will soon have a chance to take the taste test myself. One neat thing is that the CX really did not have much interest in grazing until I mixed some of the colored range birds in with them. Now they all devour the fields with as much gusto as their chicken feed.
