Help needed! Broken toes on scaly legged mess Japanese

O what a mess. I wanted to get this little Japanese female (2 yrs old)because
she had scaly legs so bad I felt so sorry for her. Well, when I went to get her, the person wouldnt give her up till they picked stuff off her feet with a pliers. Well there was blood and by the time I got her home and washed her feet there was at least 3 broken toes, one missing toe, I washed her up and tried to bandage her as best I could. I am giving her some Pen G because of the broken skin but can people please help with any advice as to what to do to help her? I have to hand feed right now because she is not eating. I gave her polyvisol vites, oatmeal, strawberry, and eggs thgis morning. What can I do to help her and make her more comfortable? Thank You

I would keep up with what you are doing and add some baby oil/Vaseline to get rid of the scaley leg mites. Also, QUARANTINE if you haven't already. You don't want the rest of your flock getting it!

Fill a small basin with enough warm soapy water to cover her feet and legs. You can add a bit of dog flea shampoo if you like. Hold her in there as long as possible. This will soften the scales and allow you to gently scrape off as much as you can without further wounding her.

It would not hurt to give her a full bath while you are at it. There's a pretty fair chance that she also has other mites, and a bath will remove many of them.

Once she is out of the bath wrap firmly in a thick towel. This will be the best time to scrape her legs. Once done, coat them with bath oil, mineral oil or vegetable oil (olive, safflower, etc.). Every couple of days retreat her legs with oil until they are healed.

Thank You for helping. She seems to be getting a bit better. I have been soaking her and I did put some lubricant on her legs. I will start the olive oil. I just rebandaged her last night. One more toe fell off. I can now see her toes much better. It really hurts me to even look at it, but at least at this point it looks like she will be able to walk and live a normal life. I hope. She is so cute. I took some pictures that maybe I can post later on. When I first got her, her feet were just two boots of "clog". Now they look like chicken feet, somewhat.

One of her back toes is either missing or has ingrown into her foot. I considered trying to get it out but at this point I think shre has been through enough.

Awww Kris sorry to hear about that poor little japanese girl

Thank god you rescued her!!! A few years ago I had picked up 2 hens at a swap one was a sebright mix and the other a buff bt japanese, I think you have heard about her. She had been missing a few toes by the time i got her with bad scaley mites. I tried several things to cure her and it was a battle royal due to the damage. She lost all toes but one on each foot, the tip had fallen off one toe but she still had enough for balance. I started soaking her feet in scarlet oil twice a day (makes a big red mess) This seemed to do the trick. I managed to get rid of the big white calouses (sp) and her feet healed wonderfully. I now treat her once a week with the scarlet oil as a preventative. Her feet are a mangled mess but it doesn't slow her down one bit. good luck with your hen.
