I posted this in the wrong thread and someone suggested that I post it here to see if I can get some additional help.

I received an email from a friend of mine yesterday and they are in a tough spot, in need of assistance.

My friend's had a pair of Brown China Geese and a couple weeks ago some kids shot & killed the gander. Apparently the goose is not handling it well at all and is not doing well. My friend is trying to find a mature gander to replace her mate with but is unable to locate one.

If any of you guys & gals know where she can purchase a mate - or even another female for companionship (as was suggested in the other thread) please let me know ASAP.

Also if you have suggestions that would help things out in the meantime, please let me know. It was recommended to me that she should give the goose some vitamins in her water and perhaps that would de-stress her.

Any thoughts?

I'm sorry for your friend's loss. That's really terrible. Have you checked your local craigslist ads or perhaps there is a waterfowl rescue organization in your area? Whereabouts are you in case there is someone on the forum nearby?

Have you tried looking on hatcheries? You could probably find then on Murray McMurray. The geese probably wont be grown but it will at least give your goose a companion. I had a chicken that lost its friends and every time I went outside she would make a whining sound for me and she would follow me around. Sorry about your loss!

Your friend could look on craigslist. They could also try to get goslings. I have heard that this can help a lone adult. My goose died and I have a lone gander. I ordered 2 goslings that will hopefully be good company for him. They should arrive this afternoon or first thing in the morning tomorrow.

I am located in SE Texas. I haven't checked craigslist but I will. Thank you.

I actually spoke with McMurray Hatchery and they were the ones that told me to just give the goose some vitamins to help the stress. Thanks.

I'm gonna check craigslist. I will also recommend that she get a gosling and see if that helps.

I really appreciate all of your help everyone. Thanks a million!
