I'm sad to hear her diagnosis. Runner ducks are so goofy and fun and it's the worse when they are not well. Wishing for a miracle for Olive.Yesterday felt like it took forever for Olives appt time to come around. She did great in the car just stood up and looked out the windows the whole time.
It's funny going to an exotic animal vet, we ended up in the waiting room with our duck, a lady with a chicken and another woman with a chameleon...quite the assortment of critters.
They ran a bunch of tests for Olive and it felt like it took forever.
Fecal exam showed no signs of parasites, worms or coccidia.
X rays showed no signs of any kind of ingested metal (which we had also been concerned about).
However, the X ray did show a large mass in her reproductive tract. The vet said it did not look like an egg and also did not look like any fluid that could be drained. As a result this mass is pushing up on all of her internal organs which explains why she has not been eating.
We were given meloxacam for pain and inflammation. Olive has always been a tiny duck (she's the smallest of all our girls) but she has lost weight and is just under 2lbs. Perscribed dose was .5ml once a day.
Thankfully she was sent home with us and happy to rejoin her flock. She is still eating some treats and was pretty excited about getting some spaghetti last night. We were told she probably has about a week before her condition worsens so I'm not worried about giving her whatever she will actually eat.
She's good this morning and hanging out with the other ducks and doesn't appear to be in any pain.
Thank you all for your help, i appreciate it so much!
Just wanted to leave as much info as possible in case it helps someone in the future. Drives me crazy when I read through old 'whats wrong with my duck' posts only to get to the end and it just stops with no answer
- Also, gave her meds without help this morning (hubby has previously been helping)...I know it's not hard but a new thing for me...she pooped on me but I did it, lol. <happy dance>
