I have a 6 week old white crested pekin duck that's having major issue with her fleshy part of her crest. It started about 2 weeks ago as minor redness. She has a very large and lopsided crest which was covering most of her one eye. We were told to put hydrogen peroxide on then flush with water and cover with Neosporin. It seemed as though it was helping but then we missed an application here and there but she continues to scratch at it and gets it bleeding! She has scratched a good majority of the feathers off in that area. Other than what we currently are doing, does anyone have any other advice on what to do? Thank you

Only use peroxide one time to clean a wound more than that an it injures healthy tissue, rinse with a saline wash and then apply the neosporin or spray with Veterycin for wounds an infections. Can you post a picture of what her head looks like? And :welcome

Thank you for your response!!! I’m so glad u said that about the hydrogen peroxide. Thankfully I’ve only used it at most twice. If u look at the pics I attached you’ll see a small circle with new fluffy growth, that’s the initial site of where this started!!! So I think the neosporin is working, she’s just scratching at it. We did file her nail down a bit on the foot that she’s scratching with.
Thank you for your advice😍

We just noticed she was scratching at it and saw some blood on feathers on her crest about 2 weeks ago? Her crest is huge and completely lopsided. I did trim it when this started thinking the crest was causing this issue? Here’s a pic of BEFORE trimming to show u just how lopsided it is. I can’t trim back as much as I’d like because of the fleshiness under feathers but I’ll keep trying. It really does impair her vision on that side😢
