We are fairly new to chickens, only having our girls for a little over a year. Our little bantam went broody in April. She was getting rather aggressive with our children while they were trying to gather eggs, so we bought her three fertilized eggs from a local gentleman. They were laid the morning of April 10th, and we had them under her that evening. They haven't hatched. There is no sign of pipping. They don't have an odor. I tried to candle them today (25/26 days in) but no light will shine through either shell. I made a little "nest" to ensure that no light escaped around the egg even. Are these eggs dead? I am scared of them being rotten and exploding on our poor little girl, or worse yet, getting rid of them when they really were viable.

Never mind. She kicked the eggs out of the nest, and one cracked. It was full of grey slimy stuff. My husband checked, and the others were also bad. We have disposed of them.

Sorry. :hugs The 12th would of been day one. You dont count when the egg was laid or the day you put them under her. count down starts the following day . 21 is just a # I have noticed with bantam eggs day 18-19 are good hatch days and large fowl can go past 21 days by a few days.
Now the reason I tell you this is next time you turn around, she will be broody again. :D
