Yeah I agree with everything you've said, and more, I just don't know where I'm meant to be looking in all honesty. I've been recommended Eglu but they're so damn expensive and so small I don't think I can justify them.
I do and I don't, I think I'm pretty capable but time is always an issue and we have rain every single day at the moment, and I have no indoor space to do such a thing. I've not got any great saws either, I generally do everything the long way with a handsaw! I do have a small jigDo you have any DIY capability at all? Or do you have anyone who could help/teach you? A modest-sized wooden box with a shed roof is a pretty easy build.

Oh and I'm 6 foot 6in, with permanent spinal damage from a motorcycle accident, I am so scared to have to clean those premade coops lol
That is pretty cool! My only worry with things like that is we can't nail things to the floor and it gets very windy for long periods of time so tarp is not great. But I am sure there are ways around that. I have tried to Google efficient DIY coops but it just comes up with nonsense coops like "car conversions" and that stuff. It always does seem to rain on the DIY.
Would some kind of less redneck, more secure take on my Camp Cockerel be possible? Converting some kind of frame into a combination coop/run? I know that Silkies need more protection than my hot climate cull boys, but I think I remember seeing a coop made from a metal bunkbed frame once. No idea where or when -- a long time ago.
There's a few websites here that sell pallets.. I've made a lot of planters and things with them in the past.

These are 1080mm x 1080mm, 15 for £81.. not bad?
Thank you!Nothing wrong with a pallet build!
You could make one entire wall swing open for easy cleaning.
