Help!!! New at this!!!! My chk WILL NOT EAT!

Two days of Tylan wouldn't be enough. Are any of your other chickens sneezing, have a runny nose, or watery eyes? Most respiratory infections are contagious so you want to keep this chicken away from the others. You also want to make sure you take care of the well chickens first, and then work with this one. Wash your hands constantly! Before taking care of her, and afterwards. Wash them before taking care of you others. Some infections are difficult to treat, and will come back anytime the chicken is stressed or weakened. Some opt to cull anything with a respiratory infection rather than treat it. Some opt to treat the sick ones only, and others treat the entire flock. You need to read all you can about the infections and decide which route you want to take.

If you can afford a vet visit, it might be a good idea to find out exactly which respiratory infection you are dealing with. You can also call your state vet and have them check your flock for some diseases. Most states offer this service either for free, or a minimal amount. Worth calling to see.

For now, you want to make sure the nostrils are clear, and the eyes are kept cleaned of the 'gunk' that causes them to seal shut. You can get sterile saline for contact users, and rinse her eyes with that. You can heat a small amount to warm, and hold a cotton ball, or gauze soaked with the saline, over the eye if it's stuck shut.

You can dip the chickens beak into water, or use a syringe and drop it onto the beak so that the drop kinda drips down onto the side of the beak, and usually they will swallow it. If you are opening the beak and putting anything in, be very careful! You can cause it do go into the lungs if it doesn't go past the hole in the back of the beak area. Force feed isn't difficult if you're shown how to do it, but otherwise you do risk causing what is called aspiration pneumonia, and it will kill it.

There are LOTS and LOTS of threads about respiratory infections on this forum. It will keep ya busy for hours reading all the information available.
