My girls are 22 weeks old and good layers. I get 9-11 eggs a day from 11 ISA brown chickens. My mother in law got our first double yoke. She was so excited. That was a few weeks ago. I told her it happens when they get started. Now we are getting a double yoke everyday and the eggs are getting larger and larger. Is there something I can do to lessen the chance of a double? The poor chicken's aren't that big, the eggs are HUGE, we thought today might be triple yok or an egg in an egg it was so heavy! I want to keep them happy and healthy. I give the Puritan Layer mini pellets, and fresh veggies & kitchen scraps everyday - lettuce, cucumbers, apple peels, scrambled eggs, watermelon rinds, etc. The shells are really hard and very in color from pale brown to dark brown with speckles. Any advice is appreciated. I don't want my poor baby to get egg bound. (also, how will I know if one is egg bound?) just in case.
