I recently got a chicken and it has no feathers on its back. The other chicken that came with it seems to look okay but it is freaking me out. I just noticed it because it was the first time i actually caught it and picked it up. Please help.
I have only had her for three days. The lady I got her from says she is between 10 to 12 weeks old. I'm not sure about her history. She was with 4 other hens but I just took her and a buff Orpington that was also with her. I have never had chickens before so this is really scaring me. I don't want her to be in pain or suffering from something.
Yes, she is doing all those things. She seems normal to me but I only have three days experience with chickens. I never noticed this before because this chicken is fast. I usually have to chase her into the coop because I cannot catch her.
It doesn't look to me like she was picked on. The feather loss is too even... I could be wrong though. Did you find any mites? You can bathe her in dawn, dog shampoo, or anything else that suds, with a little bleach. If she has mites they will die and stay still on the feathers and make it easier for you to see them. If you don't find any then she probably was just picked on in which case you should get her a saddle while she heals.
I didn't see any mites, but maybe I am inexperienced. Where can you bathe a chicken. Could you do it in your house or is that dangerous because she could spread them in my home and on my dogs? Also, what temp for the water? Sorry for the questions but I am really green with chickens. If it was about dogs that would be a different story
