Well, due to a string of unfortunate events, I ended up with a bag of chicken food wrecked by a blown water pipe. Tonight I went to the feed store at 4:40 and it closed at 3pm and closed Sunday...what?!

I am now going away for 4 days and was going to leave the food for my neighbor to feed them (I only have 2 chickens). So, would it be enough for the next four days for them to eat everything left over in my fridge and all of the neighbors kitchen waste?

I'm trying to figure out the components of the layer food. They usually run around the backyard during the day so they find all sorts of stuff, but I worry it won't be enough. What would you do????

If I was in a pinch like that, I would definately put out all of the bread that I had, veggies in the fridge, etc. If they free range during the day, I would say you have no worries. They WILL do what comes naturally, and that is ranging.

I'm sure they'll be fine.

Take your trip...they will survive!!

Pick up some of that semi-moist dog food that looks like ground hamburger meat. It's mostly protein and grain, and my chickens love it. And pick up a box of old-fashioned oatmeal too. Between the oatmeal, dog food, and table scraps, they should be fine for a few days.

Or you could ask the neighbors to pick up a bag of food on Monday when the feed store opens.

I had some free range chickens who lived for years on a diet that was principally forage and dry dog food. Make sure they have grit, though.
