HELP! not moving chick! what do I do?

I took it away because it was very cold and I could even see frost on the grass, I worried that the chick might freeze if it were still alive.
so we thought that just for hatching well put in in a incubator, since when chicks hatch they're wet and if it hatches at night it might freeze..
Chicks hatch under their mothers in freezing weather all the time. As long as she wasn't allowed to set more eggs than she could cover, they're best left with her.

HA HA GUESS WHAT!?!? The chick is finally chirping and knocking on the shell, hasn't made its first crack but I'm happy its alive!
That's great! Be patient. I know that is hard not to touch, but it may be another day or longer before it hatches. Don't move the egg around because the chick is getting into the proper position. It may stop moving and chirping. Don't worry, that is normal. Just keep waiting. Hopefully your new chick will be ready to be placed with Mom in the morning. (It may be a couple of days yet.) Just quietly slip the chick under her.
Good luck! And keep us updated.

I am trying to make a decision of putting the egg back under the mother for hatching but I'm afraid the mother will step on it when the chick hatches.
We have Silkies so i'm not sure if it makes any other difference according to the size.
We also have seen how the mother hen acts towards the other chickens in the flock.
Very mean. She attacks all of them but the rooster. all the hens are scared of her.
I'm not sure if she will accept the chick or not...
We don't want to risk the life of the chick, though we also want the mother to raise the chick on her own.
Our broody hen started plucking her own belly feathers a month ago. She clearly has gotten into this whole "broody" thing.
What should I do?

Please don't touch that egg. Wait until it hatches and then try putting the chick in with Mom. Moving it around before hatch can cause the chick to pip in the wrong area and die.
