Help! Nothing seems to be working!

yes it sounds like lice! get someone to help you

1) pick your girl up, sit down and turn her on her back, holding her wings and pop her head underneath your arm to help keep her calm

2) get your friend/partner, to really inspect her, separate feathers and check real well underneath her wings and around her vent. you are looking for something which resembles a piece of rice but more of a flesh colour they move and you should be able to see them. but it really helps to have two to do this unless you are very experienced... i wouldnt even try it! you will also see their skin looking sore as they are very irritating and an awful thing for the chicken to have.

good luck x

And sometimes they hide in the shafts of the feathers where you can't see them!

I had a hen that was molting and was nothing but pin feathers, but decided to dust here anyway. Blew me away, she was completely infested, but all of the lice had been hiding in the shafts, not on her skin in the usual places! When in doubt, dust.

I tried it, didn't work for me, so now I use poultry dust, 5% Sevin powder for mites/lice and proper wormers for internal parasites. Don't believe everything you read, and that includes posts from me, lol.

Kathy,
Is this the same Sevin 5% that you use in the garden? Sorry if that's a silly question, but that's the only Sevin 5% dust that I can find and it doesn't say anything about using it on poultry :-( The other dust I got was from Family, Farm and Home (not Sevin brand ),but doesn't say 5% or anything on it...just that it's for mites and lice on poultry. And I've used that 4 times with no success so far.

The Sevin dust I use is the one for gardens, but I'm surprised that your poultry dust didn't work, what are the active ingredients in it?
