Help odd eggs!!! Could Ihave a sick hen or is this normal? PIC Heavy

The one with the dent in it came down the chute while there was still an egg in the shell gland. It set up against the egg in there already and formed with a dent. For some reason your hen released two ova/yolks too close together and she tried to put a shell on them both, but couldn't do it well for the second one. If they were closer in time- you might have gotten a 'double yolker'. In this case you got a normal egg and a dented one....

Thanks Everyone!! I need a sigh of relief smiley. Maybe I read too many posts about sick hens.

Regarding the cracked corn, I've been given about 1/2 cup or so to my girls when the temps are in the teens or lower. Usually late in the day.

No sick or coughing either. I do get some sneezes when I add new pine shavings. I think that is due to the dust and the smell.

I have "wasted" a few eggs that I cracked open thinking they were bad. I really do feel like each egg is a little blessing even though this is what they were born to do.

Thanks again....I will enjoy all the eggs now...funny looking or not.

I take abnormal pleasure in each and every egg too! I take my eggs to work and sell them to my coworkers- and they always laugh at me when i come in every week and have to open up each carton to show off all the pretty eggs- pointing out the biggest, smallest, prettiest markings etc..... I'm a farm geek!!

The odd shaped eggs are the ones that go in my personal carton, the rest I sell.

My girls would look at me with eyes rolling and wings on their hips if only gave them a 1/2 cup of scratch

During the cool months between about Dec. and Feb (

) they demand at least 1/2 of a small bucket...about 4 cups...daily. It's like the highlight of their day. They free range all day...you'd think that would be the highlight...but NO...they follow me around when I'm in the yard talking to me about scratch, begging for scratch, going into the barn ( a "no no" and they know it) for scratch, walking right in front of me so I trip for scratch. Honest to goodness, I wonder if there is some addictive white powder in that scratch
