Help...one of my babies died today

One of my babies died today...he was almost 3 weeks old. I'm not sure if he was sick or if I had to many chicks together and they smothered him not sure! He seems kind flat in brooder! Any advice?

So so sorry for your loss. Its hard, esp when they have been thriving for the past 3 weeks. How many chicks are in the brooder to mak you think there were too many? If that is the case, perhaps you could seperate a few of them into another box or rubbermaid type container to ease the crowding. But for sure keep an eye on all of the rest in case a disease is sneaking in.

I have 12 in a metal wash tub. Probably too many..the hubby and I are headed home now to seperate them to different containers..had to go buy another heat lamp. I hope that was the problem (sad about though)and not disease.

Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear that. How big is your brooder and how many did you have? I hope the rest are doing fine.
