Help one of my roosters has a leg that causes him discomfort

I don't know what is wrong with it but he avoids using that leg

He tends to walk around by hopping on one foot to avoid using the leg that causes discomfort and I'm not sure what's causing it
 
At minimum it looks like he needs to be treated for scaly leg mites. There might be something else going on but it would be hard to determine without treating the mites first. You can treat by gently washing his legs in a bath and then covering them with vaseline or some other oil to smother the mites that live under the scales. You need to keep reapplying the oil every couple of days until the old scales fall off and new healthy ones come in (this can take awhile). Ivermectin can also be used to kill the mites, but I would still coat his legs for awhile. Also check your other birds for raised scales and crust and treat any showing signs.
