I went ahead and purchased 10 Mystic Onyx hatching eggs. It is my understanding that these birds are a hybrid breed (Silky x meat bird). Should I assume, then, that breeding a MO to a MO will not result in a MO? I don't care about the technicalities of my birds being "pure" or the outward appearances as far as leakage and other aesthetic "stuff" , what I care about is the resulting offspring carrying on the fibromelanistic trait. What is the likelihood that MO x MO would result in offspring with regular skin/meat color as opposed to black? I want to breed for dark skin and meat. Thank you in advance

My understanding is that Mystic Onyx were originally developed from the cross you mentioned, but were then bred for some number of generations with selection for the correct traits. This makes it harder to predict what offspring you will get, but it probably increased the chance that you will get the dark skin & meat in the offspring.

Because of the way the genes work, if the Mystic Onyx chickens that you use for breeding show the fibro trait themselves, I would expect about 3/4 of the chicks, or possibly more, to show the dark skin & meat.
