Help! One of my rooster's is attacking my kids!

you can't afford to have an aggressive rooster around when you have children. i don't think the children provoked the rooster - he just tried picking on "someone his own size". put an ad on your local craigslist and someone will take him - maybe for their dinner table - but someone will take him. i got rid of 2 roosters this way. sold 'em for $5 each and bought a new bag of layer pellets for the rest of the girls with the money.

I have to disagree. Roosters will indeed flog/attack unprovoked. I have lost several roosters to the soup pot for exactly this reason. Sometimes they just 'go bad'
I am the only one who handles some of my birds so I know that they have never ben provoked, yet here I sit with a couple of tell-tale scars.

QuinnP,
Maybe I'm reading too much into this but,...

It sounds to me like you have more(other), issues with the neighborhood kids,
than just with/over your chickens.

Make peace with the local kids,
and you'll have more peace around your home.

I had a roo attacking my children-unprovoked! My kids are great with the chickens. We have raised them from day olds that eat from our hands. The time came when my kids were too scared to do anything with the flock and I knew it was time for him to go. We got the chickens for the kids, and they were not having any fun with all the attacking going on. Once I got rid of him (craigslist-free) my entire flock (hens and kids) were so much happier. Just go ahead and do it.

know this is hard, but he's definately saying I'm the Big Bird, their right....time to go...not worth yur children or you being harassed.Good luck!

I admit I did not read the story or any replied but my answer is "Eat him". If he attacks a human without provocation, eat him, especially if it is children. He would seriously injure a child.

So....we have one less rooster today and my kids are excited to eat him tomorrow. They were all smiles when we told them the mean rooster was gone. They have also been feeding these chickens from the palm of their hand since they were chicks and they love these birds. We went on vacation and all they talked about were the chickens and how bad they missed them. Every morning and night, the kids open/close the gate for the chickens to free-roam and check for eggs. My son told my parents yesterday he was never going to the chicken house again (he's 3). Hopefully now he can enjoy the rest of the flock with Brutus gone. Some of these birds are so smart and loving...even jumping on my arm or back to just hang out with us. Hopefully, out problem is solved...now if I can just get Brutus' brother to quit picking on my hurt turkey, all will be good. I've isolated her from him now. We may end up with two chickens for dinner tomorrow....

Also...I found out he was a Golden Laced Wyandotte. I am learning a little about that breed and it says they can be aggressive...I do have a third GLW rooster that is just friendly as can be.
