Help! Ongoing intestinal yeast issues...plus something else??

Hi Everyone,

Oh my goodness, you are all so kind and helpful. I'm brand new to the forum and somehow didn't see that anyone had responded. Thanks! Since my first post the birds have gone on two additional medications, and their poops are looking so much more normal.

As an aside, before starting the meds, the introduction of healthy adult poops to their water and food seemed more effective than the benebac or adding cider vinegar to their water. Interesting to hear your thoughts on fecal transplants.

They are currently on Fluconazole (for yeast), Baytril (for suspected bacterial enteritis), and Flagyl (for gut irritation/inflammation). Thanks for the Baytril warning--I had no idea. Hopefully it will not further compromise their guts. So far, they seem to be ok on it.

So here's my new quandary: although their poops are looking so much better in general, they still have the occasional "weird" one. I know chickens have lots of strange looking poops that are normal, so I'm starting to wonder if some of the poops I have thought were abnormal are actually just fine. I've already pored over the various pages of chicken poop photos around the Internet and on the forum, but found a poop this morning that I'm specifically wondering about.

As a note: we've had these birds checked multiple times for various ailments in the past months (fecal floats and fecal slides). They have never showed up with parasites, worms, etc. The only thing we definitively know is that they have had yeast overgrowth and that the vet suspected a secondary bacterial enteritis or possible mystery virus.

Can anyone give me feedback on the poop below? This bird has had these on and off for months. The vet feels that at this point all the meds should have kicked in and addressed any infection and the yeast overgrowth so we should now be seeing NORMAL poops only unless there is a sneaky virus going on.

Can this poop be considered normal? It (sort of) reminds me of two on the popular chicken poop photo page (http://chat.allotment-garden.org/index.php?topic=17568.0)--the watery poop and the poop from a bird with clostridium perfringens. This is Fifi's classic "morning poop". She hops up on the edge of the box and has one of these splattering poops quite often. Sometimes they are firmer than others. I don't see her having this kind of poop under the roost overnight, or during the day (though day poops are harder to monitor).

Again, the birds are acting perfectly spunky, eating and drinking, no recent diet changes (in fact they've had an incredibly boring diet as we try to sort out their gut problems). No particularly hot weather lately, though I would say that Fifi, whose poop this is, is a heavily feathered Ameraucana, who begins to pant very quickly when under any stress at all. Again, most of her poops since all the meds look textbook perfect. For both the birds at this point some of their perfect, formed poops have a small wet ring of water around them.

Thanks in advance for any feedback! Much appreciated.
