Help!!!! Opened incubated egg too soon! Chick's still alive?!?

May I ask why you decided to put her in the shoe braces. How long after she hatched did you put her in them.
She couldn't walk at all, and I felt terrible. She kept falling onto her back like a beetle. I didn't want her to hurt herself,or to stay permanently unbalanced. I also admit I overreacted a bit with all that stuff I put on her. I've been up for the past three nights with these eggs, and needless to say, I'm a little overtired. So,in my sleepy haze, I thought it a good idea to help her out. But I did take your opinion into perspective and removed the shoes and sling. She's doing much better now.

IMO, I don't think you over-reacted... They can burn lots of energy trying to stay upright.

I have followed this thread from the beginning, and like another reader had nothing to offer as I have never been involved in the hatching process. I am absolutely amazed at the effort, love and care that you provided for these two chicks. Great job!! You are the reason they are alive today.
They are very lucky to have found you kitkat2498. Hope you can get some sleep now.

How are the chickies? We need some more pictures too ya know!

OH GREAT!!!!!!!! I am soooooo happy to hear that. I have often had babies hatch out that roll around like beatles to begin with. It scares me to death every time but, I force myself to walk away and let them be. Usually I come back and with in a couple of hours to a day they are walking around doing just fine. Just takes them a minute to straighten out there legs and all. I have in the past when this has happened hurried and put on a shoe and honestly when I took it off the leg ended up worse. I always kick myself in the hiney about that one. I really think the weight of the shoes on their little tiny legs can make things worse and usually they will straighten out on their own. Anyway as I said that is my opinion from my experiences. I am sure there are others who will disagree. I am so glad to hear your little ones are doing well. :)

So this morning I decided the girls' box was too boring...

And I still haven't named this chicky! Any ideas? Something that ends in 'a' would be nice, since all of our other hens end in 'a' (Minerva,Jessica,Fiona,Samoa,Elliana,Amelia..)
