HELP!!! opossum trouble

No, they will come around in the day too...ecspecially if they are hungry. But it doesnt hurt to keep rabies in the back of your mind if he is acting funny.

From Wikipedia reguarding rabies in possums:

Opossums have a remarkably robust immune system, and show partial or total immunity to the venom of rattlesnakes, cottonmouths, and other pit vipers.[2][3] Thanks to their lower blood temperature, rabies is almost unknown in opossums.[4]

Oh, i'm not at all worried about rabies. Earlier this summer I was outside at my grandparents house in the country and we heard some noise in the barn and there was about a 30 pound coon up where the hay was tryin to get to where the chickens were roosting. So naturally i went and got the .22 and shot him. I actually had to shoot him twice, and when i went to pick it up, i grabbed it by the tail and it didn't move at first and as i was abuot to toss it to the floor of the barn, it sprung up and bit my hand. So despite some pain, i unloaded the rest of my bullets until it was for sure dead. Then the real ordeal begins.(no pun intended) So we took the dead coon to a research lab where they tested it immediatley and a week later we got results that the coon was rabies positive. The rabies shots are not fun. I believe it was a total of 9 shots. 5 on the first day, 4 of those 5 being in my rear:( and the other in my deltoid(shoulder). Then they have a schedule set up where i had to get 1 shot 3, 7, 14, and 28 days after the first set. All in all, it was not that bad. Now, i can grab any rabies infected critter i want, and with a small price to pay. ($1,647.00)

Wow you had some ordeal with that raccoon. Glad your ok. I worry about rabies all the time here in florida seems we get alot of raccoons with it. I'm afraid to get trapped on the back porch or the kids get trapped. Raccoons seem to be able to find our cat door and come inside and they trash the porch. I try to keep traps set now.
