I have a hovabator and just ordered another one. They both have the plastic trays in the bottom where you fill one tray for the first 18 days and both for the last three. I bought a digital temp/humidity from walmart. But if I feel the trays is it that important to measure the humidity. And another question has anyone ever used one if those indoor outdoor thermometer with the cord. I seen one at lowes for 12. I was thinking would it work if I put the device in one bator and ran the cord in the other one. Would that give me correct reading in both bators? I figured that would save me a little money on buying two thermometers.

I am using one with a cord and one that sits inside. The prob only measures the actual temperature, I have one sitting inside my incubator that measures both. I arranged it so I could see it through the window. So I am monitoring the temp two different thermometers.

You can test their accuracy easily at home. Do a search on thermometer ice water calibration and hygrometer salt calibration..

I'm sure someone else here cat help you more accurately.. But that should get you started..

A bit of advice. On the Acurite thermometer it will only measure humidity on the device itself NOT on the probe. If you want the correct humidity reading you will have to put the device inside the incubator. I had one also till I figured this out. I ordered a spot check from ebay for 17 bucks and ran to wally world and picked up a few for 6.50 there, they were over by the lighting and camping supplies at my walmart. Also it is nice to have the not digital ones in there incase something starts going crazy. I probably have 7 of each laying around, I keep 2 inside and one outside oh and all the backups. I know too many people who have made the same mistake with the acurite, very common.
