Our first egg and it couldn't have come at a worse time.

We had a barbecue going on. I let the Orps out at the same time
as usual and they were doing fine with the visitors except one
was hanging out near the garden.

My wife noticed the egg bulging out of the vent. It seemed stuck
and we didn't know what to do. She pulled it gently and it came out
okay but there was a mass of red tissue sitting in the vent.
She gently pushed it back in and the Orp seems to
be doing okay 4 hours later.

Is this usual?
Is this what happens the first time?
I have 12 more that are going to be first-timers any hour now and
I don't want to hurt them or interrupt the natural process.

I completely panicked with the egg. I didn't weigh it. I was more worried
that there was sometime wrong. I cracked it open and it was perfect
as far as I could tell. The little bit of white you see in the picture that is
on the yolk is potato salad. The yolk was almost as big as the egg.
If I had to guess I would say the egg was a PeeWee.

Please let me know if I helped or hurt as soon as you can. There will
probably be 2 or 3 more first-timers tomorrow and I want to be better
prepared.

Thanks In Advance.

Its been 5 hours..I checked her vent the opening is smaller and I dont see
any red mass like before.

Any help or experience would be great at this point.

As long as she looks okay right now I don't think there is much you can do. Watch her over the next few days and see how she does. Remember, she may not lay again for a few days to a week or more. At this stage it is very unpredictable. Sometimes, when they first start laying glitches happen. Hopefully, this is one of them.
