I have a baby wood duck, that I have just received because it's clutch mates were hit by a car and the mom flew away. First is it legal to own a wood duck in Virginia? Also is raising one different then raising any other little duckling?
No, it's not legal to have a wild wood duck. You should contact Fish and Game or a wildlife rehabber. Wood ducklings need a much higher protein food such as worms and meals worms and other critters. They are notoriously difficult to get to eat as ducklings. If you can get it to eat then offer it dried meal worms, earth worms, and slugs along with a game bird feed. But still I would contact Fish and Game so the little one can be raised as a wild duck and return to the wild.
