My parents bought me some chicks for my birthday and I have no idea what I'm doing! 2 of the chicks had poop all over their bums so I looked it up and it looks like they've got something called pasty butt? Ive read around and it seems like if I just wash it good for like 2 days it should go away on its own. And I also read somewhere that putting their food in the blender and making it a power helps and that covering the wood chips with a paper towel so they dont eat the wood chips helps. I'm going to try these ideas but does anyone have any other suggestions for me? I'm stressing out of my mind! I dont want to lose them, I would cry my eyes out. Please help!

I wouldn't worry about the food, just keep an eye on them and wash their bums with warm water, it usually doesn't last very long. You don't want them getting plugged up.

I also would not put the food in the blender--they need to start eating the crumbles off the paper towel and finding the feeder. Pasty but is from dehydration in shipping, and can also happen from too cold or too much heat. I look at all bums daily for pasting up, then wash the bums under the sink faucet with a little soap and warm water with fingers--comes right off within a minute. Don't get the chick wet, just the bum. Then dry it with tissue. This doesn't last more than 7 days, 10 maximum unless something is wrong. Decrease the brooder temperature weekly from 90 degrees to 85 to 80 and so on.
