My peacock recently hurt his foot so I had to pen him up for a couple weeks to let him heal. Well I let him out and now my muscovy drake won't stop trying to fight him. At first the peacock would try to get away but now they both seem intent on killing eachother. We penned the drake and now they are both staring at eachother on either side of the fence.
I tried to let them fight it out but they don't seem to want to stop. Any ideas on how to get them to relax?

Where are the girls while all of this is going on? It seems likely this is some kind of a territorial guy thing.
While your peaboy was penned, Mr. Drake probably decided he was the big cheese and now thinks he's being challenged.
I don't know anything about ducks, do they have a breeding season? If so, you might have to wait it out until it's over.

Sorry, not very helpful I know.

Well he was imprinted on people (unintentionally) so I think he may be trying to protect us. I'm very attatched to him so I'm afraid I could not make him dinner. I tried penning him but they just tried to fight through the fence. I put him inside the house for a bit, which helped but I went outside to check on some chicks and he started fighting him again. The drake had the peas wing while the pea was dragging him around. I'm starting to think I'll have to make him an inside duck :(

Hate to tell you this but the peacock will not stop till the duck is gone or dead, the duck most likely started it and the peacock will not forget it.

No doubt. I have had it go both ways with guineas. Couple of years ago I had a beautiful IBBS who could not get along with the other birds in the pen so I kicked him out to free range. The guineas were unmerciful and picked on him relentlessly until he had had enough and left.

This year the guineas were picking on another IB free ranger and he killed the guinea in self-defence.

Yep guinea fowl can be thugs and they will gang up on a peacock.

Well I hope it doesn't come to that. They got along so well for the last year, even shared a pen before they went to free range. Seems as though the peacock has hurt his foot again but they are leaving eachother alone for now...

I actually have the same problem every year with my 'lead' male Muscovy and 'lead' free range peacock... I penned up the Muscovy last year and as soon as I let him out right back to fighting and riding my peacocks tail feathers ... This year same thing but the Muscovy was getting beat up more and started backing down some even hiding in the open duck pen ( closed at night) but then my peas where fighting for top dog rights again and when a different peacock took over a different Muscovy stepped up to challenge him like the first two did?? Thank goodness no one was hurt in all this except for the Muscovy face was bloody and the peacock lost some feathers but now they all are getting along once again! Mating season has to have something to do with it. I also think the more that u keep them out of sight from each other the worse it might be when they get back together again... Having to prove who is top dog so to speak of the entire farm... Does this sound about like your place??
