HELP!!!!!... PHOTO UPDATE..MY BRAVE Roo....Doing better now....

That is a beautiful picture. There is just nothing on this earth like a sweet brave loving roo. Having his girl buddy with him will, I'm sure, help him a lot. Along with all your wonderful TLC. It'll take time to heal but so long as you can beat back infection (and so long as there are no major breaks or major internal injury) he'll do good. Please keep us posted.

His comb looks good and red so that's a good thing. I need to go away tomorrow so I won't be able to see how good he's doing but I'll be checking back on Tuesday. I hope he will be up and running around by then.

Keeping your little guy in my thoughts and prayers!

OMGosh! What a cute picture! Great job all the way around Little roo, you and his girl. I helped a hen pull through a coyote attack. ( I wish I had taken pictures) Her feathers are just starting to grow back...In addition to keeping the wound clean, I would start him on antibiotics. THe vet told me Tylan and Baytril are used for those types of wounds. If you have a relationship with your local vet, they would prob be happy to give you the correct dosage. Both of those antibiotics can be given orally. Keep up the great work on your little fighter!

What a good little roo. Just keep the wound clean and watch for infection. I usually clean wounds a couple times a day with diluted iodine. You don't want to put him outside until that wound at least scabs over, fly issues and maggots are a big concern. If you have a wound spray, it should speed healing. good luck

Well my little Roo is still limping bad...but he is able to move the toes on the bad leg now (which is an improvement).
I don't have a vet that will give antibiotics out for chickens in my area (closest id over 2 hours away) all I have at the moment is duramycin(sp?)...is there another antibiotic that would work for open skin that i can get at an Orschlen's?
The tips of his cob are a more deep red/purple (which is different for him)...but he has been willingly eating the scrambled eggs and buttermilk with a bit of yogurt in it......but sometimes acts like the coon might of poke his lung on the wounded side....I been cleansing with diluted peroxide and then putting antibiotic ointment on it 2 times a day.....
any other things i need to be doing?

I will keep him inside until he can walk and the wound is scabbed up !

Thank you to all of the warm wishes you guys have been sending my way....it is totally different on the other end here
