Help picking a mate!

[Beans_the_Duck]

Hi, so we have a call duck, she's a girl and her name is Beans and she is about 1.75 years old (in human yrs) and she is currently alone and i want to get her a companion and i want to know what the best way to go will be. How old, male/female etc. She's a indoor duck for the most part too fyi and would like to stay with a bantam duck as well!! Thank you in advance for your help!

no pekin! even just walking they could literally crush her. and in spring girls mate with each other as well, so if the pekin climbs on her that’s gonna be horrible. i recommend another call or an east indie female. same size as her!

Agreed! I would get her another female, and something her size, a Call would be best, but a Mallard or a Rouen, since they are also small in size would be good too! Good luck with her!

also, could i recommend adopting? much better than purchasing and you can get an already adult duck who can be easily friends with your duck way easier than a baby

This is a fantastic idea! There are somany ducks out there on Craigslist, and Marketplace that need homes!

if you really wanted to, you could get a drake too since most are unfortunately killed. since they are part time indoors just seperated if needed

calls are much calmer then other breeds in mating season. you really only need 1-2 girls depending on the drake because they tend to pair off unlike other breeds

I have never owned a Call so I wouldn't be super experienced with them. Good luck with your lady!
