I ordered white and blue silkies from my local feed store. They will be getting in many more than I ordered and I will be choosing the ones I want from the total lot. In the blue silkie, is there any criteria to go by to ensure I will end up with a blue? I have looked at some pix of blue chicks and they are colored from light to dark. What would be my best bet for blues, light or dark? And, I prefer the bearded over the nonbearded. Do baby chicks show any signs that they will be bearded?

Also, my question on frizzles, in the breed section, received no replys. Just wondering what are the problems with breeding frizzle to frizzle. I have a chick that FRIZZED at 4 days old. And I mean FRIZZED like in the extreme range. I have 4 others that are just now frizzing at 5 weeks. Frizz, as I call her,

is only about half the size of the other 4 but seems to be quite healthy and fiesty! Could this be a frizzle to frizzle breeding? What other problems might she have if she is actually a frizz to frizz breeding? I would hate to loose her, she is my favorite.

Thanks for any info on either the choosing of blue silkies or on frizz to frizz breeding.

The peeps can change color a lot from the time they hatch to their more mature colors. If it was me I would choose both the light and the dark blue. Just remember watch for 5 toes, black skin, blue ears. Some peeps show they're bearded more than others. That's one of the tougher things to describe unless you actually see for yourself the differences. The bearded will have more poof around their faces than the non bearded.
