I just got 4 pheasant chicks today, Lady Amherst and Red Golden.
I was holding the Red Golden babies and saw that they have little white bugs crawling through their down...they don't even have feathers yet! They were born on Saturday.
What do I do?! I've never had this happen before! Please help!
I've read that dusting with Sevin is one of the best and fastest solutions but they're still young. Will it kill or hurt them? Or will it just kill the lice?? I'm afraid of hurting the chicks, but I also know that lice will do more damage.

I have done quite a bit of reading on this and the conclusion is that yes sevin dust is ok to treat the babies with as well. Put some on your finger tips and gently rub it on them. Avoid getting any of it in their eyes, nostrils, and mouth. Be sure to dust the brooder they are in as well, I would also change the bedding. Do this again in ten days. Hope this helps.

Take a small bag fill it with a little bit of sevins dust and then put a chicken in it shake it around alot but not too much once there is sevins dust all over him. Then the bugs should go away, they take dust baths themselves but it only helps doesn't kill the mites.

I did this with my chickens only keep them in there for about 3-5 seconds.

Well thank you for your help you guys. :)
I dusted my chicks last night with DE instead because I was told it was safer, so we'll see how it goes. Tried hard to keep it out of their eyes and nose and such. Hopefully it does the trick in killing the bugs!
