HELP PLEASE! Blood on egg?

One of my hens laid an egg with streaks of blood on it. Is this a sign of a serious problem? I have never had this happen before. I would greatly appreciate any help or advice!

You might check out the outside of the chicken. I had that happen and after a bit of checking around I found that one of my hens had a scrape on her foot and that is where the blood came from.

It happens occasionally. If it's a persistent problem, I'd probably start checking vents, but now and then, I wouldn't worry.

Some birds will bleed a bit as the cloaca stretches out while passing an egg. Usually it's seen in new layers or those resuming lay after a break. It can also happen if the egg is larger than normal, and in most circumstances is nothing to worry about.
