You can do surgery yourself if no vet is available. I've done it with my hen .

My rooster has gigantic spurs and I believe this was done while mating.

I did what I had to do and study YouTube videos of surgeons.
Then I used what I had available, a needle for clothes and a regular thread.

Yes yes yes, it looks like Crap but she wouldn't stand still.
12 stitwches, she screamed 4 times and twice got away from my hands which is difficult to hold her with my knees and use one hand to keep her skin together and the other for surgery.

Very pleased to say, she is doing much BETTER!

good job!!! I'm glad she's doing better...I'd see about those wicked spurs on that rooster before you have to practice surgery again...I'm going to have to do something about my big Roos spurs soon myself...clip and grind them...at least got to blunt them before he starts wounding his girls...

ok we just got home the vet did surgery on her i have not looked at myself yet she is still out of it from the Anastasia, he typically doesn't deal with chickens but because he is THE BEST vet in the world he done it. He said his biggest concern was putting her under but he had to in order to repair the muscle tissue and patch the skin back together. She is still pretty out of it and her breathing is labored but she is hanging in there. I will post pictures in a little bit, I first gotta feed my baby squirrel I'm nursing. I tell you we have the local Zoo and I love it lol

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR HELP

I think it depends on the vet. I take my birds to a practice that has an exotic vet and the other guys see the dogs and cats. The vet that owns the practice stitched mine up because Exotic vet was on vacation.

Office visit was $40 and $15 for the Baytril. He put my girl out too. She only needed about 3 stitches. He took about 15 minutes start to finish.
Dog bite was the cause of mine too.

WE have an Avian Vet in the area who charges a $60-$80 office visit. I was there 2 weeks ago for a cockrel with a re-occurrence coccidia and it was $180 for office visit, fecal test, medicine, and tube feeding supplies.

Call your Vet and ask.

good luck.

I'm so pleased you were able to get a vet to assist with your girl!
I would ask that vet how you could handle an injury like that, if you can't get to a vet for treatment. See what he says and provide us with feedback?

OK here is a picture of it after surgery, she is doing great today moving around eating and drinking. As far as the Vet bill it was $75 and that included the surgery which took a little over an hour a antibiotic shot, antibiotics to bring home, and a bottle of Vedco Chlor-A-Clens-L. But It real depends on the vet, Dr. Cleve is awesome and he is truly in it for the love of animals. I took my daughters Chihuahua about 6 months ago after her boyfriends lab attacked her and her eyeball was damaged badly, she is now blind in that eye but at least he was able to save the it and he only charged for meds which was like $20. I cant say enough good things about him its why I drive 29miles to use him. We have a vet here in our town but he is a jerk in fact because he is closer when my daughters dog was bitten in the face we called him and he refused to see her, although he claims to be an animal hosp. and his reasoning was because we havent used him in over 2 years.

Any how my baby girl is doing very well and i am just so happy Dr. Cleve is such an awesome person who cares so much about his patents.
