My duck coop
THE TITLE EXPLAINS IT ALL... my duckling was attacked by chickens. I don't know how long she has had these wounds or was in with the chickens, we left her in the chicken side of the coop somehow! We just found her 10 minutes ago. She hasn't had water all day, since she doesn't know how to use the nipple peck waterer. We have her in her own box in the house right now, with food and water. PLEASE HELP what do I do? Will she get infected and die. Will she peck at here wounds and make them worse? Sorry for all the questions... please help my baby!

I think she will heal on her own. I would clean the wounds, water and iodine, or something along that line... Even just a rinse... You could let her shower in your tub if it doesn't gross you out. Keep her separated and let her heal... If you can separate her in sight of her flock that would be ideal...
Keep a close eye on her and go from there.

Don't Panic! Keep calm and grab a towel.

Keep her inside, calm and warm. Wrap her in a towel if needed to keep her from struggling while you treat her.

Don't use peroxide or Alcohol on the injuries as Peroxide is bad for healthy flesh and alcohol will burn.

If you have a betadine scrub you can wash the injuries with that and then spray with the Vetericyn.

If you don't have any betadine scrub just use a gentle soap to clean and wash the wounds. Flush them well with water so you can make sure any dirt or debris is out of the injuries. Then go get that Vetericyn.

Use the Vetericyn asap to spray on the wounds. That stuff works miracles. She most likely won't peck at her own wounds and unless she has some severe muscle tissue showing I wouldn't cover the wounds.

Until you have the vetericyn you can put neosporin without pain killer on the open sores.

You can get it at feedstores and I know Petco carries it.

Ducks are pretty amazing and can survive a lot of injuries so she will be fine. Just keep her away from those chickens and keep her alone until she's healed up. Keeping her inside is good because she's lost feathers and she won't be able to regulate her body temp until the feathers grow back.

Do not worry i promise. she will heal on her own the same happened to me once and she was fine in a week and almost completely healed in two weeks. make sure she is eating and drinking lots and keep her isolated from the chickens until she is 100% cured. do not worry she will be fine.

I agree - Veterycin works really well! Keep an eye on her feet as they heal to make sure she doesn't get any pockets of infection there. One of my ganders was not happy sharing the yard with some of my ducklings recently. One got pretty well plucked as she was rather aggressively shown off of the property. My young pheasants would try to scalp each other as well. I looked out one morning to see their heads looking just like your duckling. I just separated them, and they recovered in no time. Birds heal really quickly. Just giver her own quiet space for a while and she will be better before you know it!

Thanks for all the help! We used a cotton ball and dabbed some colloidal silver on her wounds, it's supposed to work as an anti-boitic. We are using it on our dog with a hot spot on neck and bearded dragon with an eye infection. It is working great. We tried not t push to hard on her wounds the wing hurt the most. When we touch that spot she really freaked out.

And people wonder why we rec not putting chickens and ducklings together.

I'm sorry you had to find out the hard way, Keep on with the silver and TLC mainly keep her clean as possible and away from flies if they lay eggs in those wounds it won't be good at all.

Thanks for the help. We are giving her lots of love. Still not sure if it's a boy or girl. We sexed it a bunch of times as a girl but looks more like a male to me.

That should be the least of your worries now. Just get her/him through this then by the time the feather grow back in you should know. also girls quack loud boys quack low.

Please keep the flies out of those wounds, I'd keep her inside till all wounds are scabbed over and no raw skin left.
