Hello all, I have a 3yr old african/dark Chinese gander that's acting off. Here are the symptoms:
-unusually quiet
-really small stool with mostly urates(whites)
-slight tail bobbing
-slightly wobbly
-unable to eat
-standing really still then occasionally freaking out

He usually LOVES mealworms or scratch, but for some reason he seems unable to eat on his own. He's interested in the food and is attempting to nibble, but his mouth isn't opening, if that makes sense. I crushed some dried mealworms and put them in his mouth and he swallowed that up and seemed to enjoy it. Managed to feed him about 1/4 cup of that. He's the only goose in my chicken dominated flock and has been since he was a gosling. The main feed available are fermented grains supplemented with gamebird protein crumble (28%) and occasionally some brewers yeast. Plenty of deep bucket waterers for him to drink from. He's also had foamy eye that we've managed for about 2yrs now. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

What a sweet photo.

I'm sorry he's not well, unfortunately I don't know anything about Geese.
I hope he gets better soon.

Will he drink on his own. I wouldn't force him to drink being he might aspirate or even force feed into his mouth. There is tube feeding which is a safer way to get nourishment into him.

I sure wish I knew what could be wrong is a vet an option?

Have you heard any squeaky coughs, coughing, sneezing, or snicking from him?

Has there been any changes to his voice? Has it become congested sounding, like lower and gurgly or has it become higher and nasally?

Can he open his mouth? If you can try to open his mouth and inspect the inside of his mouth, you may need a second person to hold and shine a flashlight down his throat.

If you can do a physical exam feel between his legs and his rear hip bones which will feel like two bulbs beneath his tail, between his rear pelvis bones and legs it should be soft and gooey, if you can feel what feels like a hard egg or ball that usually indicates an inflamed lower intestine, probably from an infection.

If you can try to force him to eat a few blueberries. It should pass through his system in a few hours and turn his droppings blue, if you don’t see that after a full day it can mean his digestion has slowed to a halt or he has a blockage.
