Usually oxidation issues. I’ve heard this can be related to heart trouble. A little bit more info could probably lead some of the others on here to a better conclusion

1. How old is she?
2. Is she lathargeic? Laying eggs still?
3. Do you have more chickens? If so, are any of them showing the same symptoms or acting differently?

It looks a bit like damage from the chicken rubbing against meatal fencing perhaps trying to get away from other chickens. The comb and the wattles have the dark appearance. It should heal in a few weeks.

just over a year old
a little bit lethargic, i don't think shes laying
yes she is with 9 other chickens and i am about to introduce some chick/pullets

Watch to see if she is being picked on or bullied. How much room do they have? Are they getting outside to free range and roam? I would solve this problem before adding new birds.

I agree with @Eggcessive and would not add any other chickens until the cause is resolved.

How do her toes look? Could you post a picture?

The darker colouration is just a symptom and possible causes among others might be:

  • Ingestion of cereal contaminated by ergot leading to necrotic tissue (toes, combs, wattles).
  • Ingestion of other toxics, i.e. lead (paint)
  • Ingestion of rodenticides
  • Ingestion of cherries: Dark colouration due to cherry juice or the ingestion of cherry stones leading to heart problems caused by hydrogen cyanide. Ingested cherry stones will be crushed in the gizzard and the hydrogen cyanide thus set free.
