Bumblefoot?? I am not 100% sure! Yesterday, I clipped the ducks' toenails, along with filing chicken beaks and toenails. When I went to clip Squirts' toenails, I noticed this bump under his foot....

I read Pet Duck Boy's thread about his duck, Sunny, and her Bumblefoot. I do have the epsom salts, iodine, vet wrap, etc....but I don't think we have Neosporin (spelling??). Is there anything else I can use for meds on the Bumblefoot if this is what Squirt has?

His foot was a little dirty today, please excuse that

We took pics from different angles too, so I will point out where the spot is on his foot.

****Sorry for the poor quality of the pics, my camera is not the greatest in the world****

^ Okay, so the spot is on the right hand side, right above the thumb

^ The spot is between the pointer finger and the thumb

Any info is greatly appreciated!

Can you tell us more about the duck's behavior? Limping? Is the foot especially warm? How is his appetite? Does he seem down in the dumps? It won't hurt to clean the foot, and keep a really close eye on it (check more frequently).

Neosporin is a brand name. Triple antibiotic ointment is a more generic name. Just avoid the kind with painkillers, as those may be problems for ducks, according to Duck_feeder.

Please let us know about how he is acting, if he is acting differently than usual.

And hang in there!

it doesn't look like 100% bumblefoot to me. It looks like a possible fungal problem too... it could be bumble, it just doesn't look like classic bumblefoot. definitely clean it out and bandage it for now. Is your duck limping at all?

Thanks for the responses.

He is not limping, the foot was not warmer than usual, his appetite is good, and he seems to be his normal self....

I gotta run back out to the barn to get the supplies and then I'll bring him in, soak it, and wrap it.

Thanks for the help

Okay, so I soaked it with Epsom salts and Iodine solution in warm water for 15 minutes. Of course he pooped! Not the best duck to handle either... very independent LOL

Anyways, we got a sterile pad covering the bottom of the foot, then vet wrap and then we had to tape it because I knew it would come off. Had to wrap and then it fell off because it wasn't stable. So the second time we pretty much had to wrap the whole leg

Feel kinda bad for him but he walked around all right and we have him in a crate in the coop so he doesn't get it off and dirty...
