Of 6 straight run Speckled Sussex chicks, 2 were obvious cockerels and rehomed months ago. This one developed more slowly, but has a much larger (floppy) comb and wattles than her sisters. My husband thinks he heard "her" try to crow, I haven't yet. I have found a good home if in fact she is a he, but I don't want to give her up if not. Dolly is a great bird, not aggressive, very friendly etc.

Thanks for your help!

Thanks y'all -- I thought so too, but was hoping against hope that she was just a really well endowed hen. He's such a sweet bird. Oh well, Danny it is, and he has a good home already lined up.

Crud -- it always has to be the favorite chick, right?

Me too, he has saddle feathers and his tail feathers are longer and black. I'd say roo for sure.

And his comb is not only larger, but brighter.

Such a bummer! She's a he......Seems like every time I get a chick with loads of personality, it's a BOY! DARN IT!

Glad you've got a good home for him. He's a handsome guy....

He's gorgeous!!!! I may have the same thing too but I wont know for a few more weeks... yikes!

Thanks everyone -- such a sweetie. My other home for him fell through, so we're on the hunt again. I've posted on Cheapcycle and Craigslist -- and will post here at BYC forum too, just in case someone is close by.
