Hi all! I just had my first egg hatch, a baby silkie. She had fluffed up so I took her out of the incubator, I noticed a strange water-like liquid coming out of her vent? It’s very watery and i need help ASAP! I really don’t want anything to happen to her.

I know it's alarming, but at this point there's little you can do but keep her warm in the incubator or brooder. She may not eat or drink anything for a couple of days, because she's surviving on the remaining yolk inside her abdomen. If you can get her to drink, try a little honey water or electrolytes in her water. I don't know what it is, and hadn't really noticed whether any of my newly hatched chicks ever did that. I know human babies sometimes do, and it's normal. Good luck with your little chick.

Thank you so much! She has seemed to stop and her other chick friends have just hatched and will hopefully be nice and fluffy pretty soon so she can spend the night with them! She has seemed to stop and is doing really good. Every egg in the incubator has hatched other than one that was a quitter at week 2!
