Hello all,
I was wondering if someone can help me. I've been looking through the posts here, to see if I could find anything, but couldn't. I have a rooster, not quite a year old yet. He has a very swollen leg. At first it was the whole leg, and some in the foot, especially the bottom. Now it is from the knee joint , up. I thought it might be frostbite, but from what I can see in the pictures, it looks nothing like that. Not bumblefoot either. I see no discharge, no discoloration, no lumps, no dark spots. He has had this now for over a month. I have him penned up seperately from the other chickens, because the other two roosters were picking on him. His leg was extremely hot when it started, so I started giving him antibiotics, Seems too have helped some. I do see some improvement, but he still just sits there most of the time, and just limps when he tries to get around. I don't want to put him down, I don't have the heart to do that. If anyone there has had some experience with this, can you please give me some advice? Would baby aspirin help bring down the inflammation? Thanks in advance,

Blessings, Grace, and Peace,
Dianna

Baby aspirin may at least help him with the pain. 1 baby aspirin (81 mg) crushed into one cup of drinking wtaer, fresh batch at least daily.

I recommend you google "Gout" and see if this is what he has. There's alot of good info on it.

If he has gout, give lots of cherries. You can buy frozen at this time of year, defrost to room temp, and cut up in little pieces for him. Won't hurt in any case so it is worth trying. Google gout and cherries :~)

What is roo's diet? Too much calcium could maybe cause a gout situation.

Thanks for the advice everyone!
I'll keep posting as time goes on and let you know how he's doing. Poor thing, and he used to be the bully of the coop.

Blessings to you all,
Dianna
