Help please!

Thank you to everyone for the replies. I had some hope yesterday after she had a small liquid stool and was standing but this morning she is down again and I'm torn. I will try to get some copper and flagyl and see if there's any hope. I just worry she is suffering needlessly.
Sometimes Culling is the best solution.....Only you see the Birds condition.....I am sure you will make the right decision in regards to her suffering.....

Sorry,

Happy Holidays.....

Cheers!

Quote: X2 Some birds in this condition respond to treatment others not. I have saved some, lost some. Crop issues can be very mysterious and many times treating the crop condition does not heal what is actually wrong with the bird. SO many times a slow/sour/impacted crop is secondary to something far more serious and it's not easy figuring out what is truly going on inside their bodies. I am so sorry.

I agree if she is suffering. Most of the professional veterinary sources say to cull any bird with canker, to control the spread. Here we only have suggestions for treatments for various ailments of pet birds, but I tend to lean towards culling very sick birds because they can suffer, and treatment can be very expensive and time-consuming. Don't feel guilty to help put her out of her misery. Below is some reading about canker:

Oral Canker

Canker is a condition mostly associated with pigeons and is caused by a tiny parasite called trichomonas. This parasite is often spread through contaminated drinking water. The parasite causes a ‘yellow button’ of pus to form in your bird’s mouth. This can stop your bird from eating normally leading to weight loss.

What to look for

  • Weight loss
  • Birds picking up food then dropping it
  • A cheese-like plaque in your birds mouth (see photo)
  • A reluctance to eat
Treatment

Treating canker or suspected canker is a job for a vet who will likely prescribe an anti-parasitic medication.
Prevention

Ensure that your birds' drinking water is changed daily. Try to keep the drinkers in the chicken house to discourage wild birds from sharing your birds’ water.

Lost my girl overnight. I was only able to get one dose of flagyl in her. I'm still not entirely sure what was wrong but I'm glad she's no longer suffering. I hope I didn't prolong it too much by trying to save her. :( Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and thank you for the help
