How long was he gone total?
How did he return? Was it around feeding time? Showed up while you were gone?
How 'bout a pic of the pair together?
 
Great to hear. Hopefully I will have similar luck with my current birds that are at large (1 from last weekend, and two missing from yesterday's flight). All three of these losses were inexplicable, as all of these birds had flown and homed before.
 
He has returned!!
I am happy for you BYC buddy. I would "NOT" let him go out right away he has been through an ordeal. I would give him a week or 5 days to regain his strength. Then release him on his own volition. The bird has been malnourished over the last few days and should stay near the feed and water dish. In a weaken state he may be easy prey for a predator.
