Help please!!

Do about 5 days ago, our Dolly Duck came down with bumblefoot. This is her second time getting it and she'd had plenty of warm epson salt baths. She can't stand on it very well, and the sores are warm to the touch, she hasn't been eating well either. Can anyone give me some advice before I take her to the vet???

If she is not eating at all, nutritional status must be maintained via tube feeding or her anorexic state will likely lead to her expiration. The sores appear fairly localized, so I would be surprised if the sores were related to her not eating, it might be best to see your vet and confirm whether that is the apparent problem or not.

A vet would likely get the job done faster and with more efficiency, but if you would like to save yourself some money, there are many people who perform bumblefoot treatment at home. Basic treatment consists of soaking the foot in Epsom salt, or antiseptic water mix to loosen the eschar (massaging the core can help aid in the removal of the core). Once the core becomes loose and a little pliable, you should be able to take a scalpel/ and or a pair of tweezers, and gently peel/cut the core out.

Once you have achieved excavation of the core, firm pressure can be applied to the area to squeeze out any caseous bacteria-filled bacteria. Afterward, a good lavage with an antiseptic, then application of the antibacterial ointment, and finally a gauze/vet wrap bandage would be indicated.
