Good morning all!

I went out into my big girl coop last night to check on them since I got home late and didn't get to lock them up until late.
While in there, I noticed that one of the eggs that my broody has been sitting on broke. The contents of the egg has leaked onto the majority of the other eggs. What do I use and how do I clean the mess off of the remaining eggs. Also, what is a safe number of eggs to keep under the chickens so that they won't break? I have barred rocks.

Thanks and have a great day!

This happened to me just a couple of weeks ago. 1 egg had broken and another egg was plastered to her underside so that if she stood up, it went with her tightly pressed to her bottom.

I pulled the egg off of her gently and brought out hot water and a towel. By the time I got to the coop the water was just "very warm".

I washed the eggs, cchanged the bedding, but left the hen alone and unwashed.

June 21st, 2 days ahead of schedule, the eggs started pipping and were all out of their shells by late afternoon June 22nd.

Good Luck!
