Did you flush her wounds out with betadine or just water? Please weigh her, just like they would do at the vet's office.I found another deep gash on her today...she did not mind me messing with her...but the smell almost made me sick...it has a yellow color to it and I cleaned it and out medicine on it...she seems to weigh the same as she did when I got her...I just needed to know if the smell and yellowing will lead to an infection or is it just healing...
You would treat her wounds the same way you would for a cat or dog. Any weight loss would be an indication of her declining. Most people can't tell if an animal loses 100 grams and that would be a cause for concern, to me.They have no clue about chickens...I was told to keep doing what I was doing and just keep an eye out for her declining...
I would get some betadine and thoroughly clean all of the wounds. If there are any punctures, flush those out really well with the betadine. If she loses any weight, I would start her on antibiotics, but check with your vet tech/dr buddies on that.No just warm water...I dont have any of the other got to go to town to get some...I did weigh her she was 8.6 pounds...
Exactly! I would probably use Tylan just because you could be sure that the chicken was getting the proper dose. When it's in their water and they aren't drinking enough, they aren't getting enough medicine either. Also, unlike dogs/cats you can usually pick up poultry antibiotics under $10 at your local livestock feed/supply store without a vet. Right off the shelf.
