Good Morning,

I have a bit of a problem with my first gosling hatch. (Only 1 little guy) . I candled him on Tuesday 5-27-14 and he is a 5-3-14 baby. I saw what I thought was an internal pip. So I upped the humidity to 85% and stopped turning. I thought that he might be a bit early. Well this morning with still no external pip I recandled and did the water test, proving he was still alive and kicking. I feared he shrink wrapped himself, so i popped a small hole in the air cell to get a good look at him and, sure enough he was a bit shrink wrapped. So i took a microfiber rag and wet it with warm water and wrapped up my little guy and stuck him back in there. Can someone please gove me advice with him. He is my first goose and I would like for him to hatch. I am decent at hatching most of my hatch rates are 90%+ (homemade bator). My last hatch was 43 out of 46 hatched. So anyone with advice on this please respond.

Thanks a bunch for yall's help

Surprising he was shrink-wrapped with high humidity and hadn´t externally pipped yet. Still, now there´s a hole in the shell, make it big enough to allow you to see in, and to dampen it with a spray of warm water, not too much, just enough so you can see the blood vessels in the membrane. As long as you can see blood vessels, he´s not ready to hatch. Has he already come through the membrane? Don´t break it for him, he can do this himself. If he doesn´t, then he´s too weak and won´t make it anyway. Goslings are notoriously difficult to hatch, so congrats that you got this far. If you spread out your wet microfibre cloth on the floor of the incubator it´ll help raise the humidity. I hope it´s successful for you.

Thanks for the reply!!! Yes ma'am the hole is big ebough for me to see him and no he hasn't broke through his membrane yet. I though he had from all the movement I could see when I candled him. I wet his membrane with a wet q-tip and his veins are still fairly prominent so I DID NOT pop his membrane . And I wasn't aware that they were diffucult to hatch. Lol I have 4 more in another bator. :-O

OK, well leave the others alone, this one too, except for keeping the membrane damp. There will still be blood vessels once he´s broken through, they recede very slowly before hatching. So, patience, or you could lose them. Just keep the membrane damp, and keep the humidity good for the others. Sounds like you should have 3 days or more to go yet before they´re ready.
