wait ahahahahhahahahhhhhhhhhhhh
i got up at 8am per usual to take care of the ducks and go back inside
But when I went downstairs goose (one 4week old duckling) was ON THE FLOOR and their brooder cage is elevated about four feet off the ground 😣
I thought he was okay until I saw drips of blood on my floor and then I noticed he cut one of his blood feathersssss
I don't know what to dooo he doesn't seem to care but those blood feathers are so important..?!?
I washed the majority of the blood off and I’m not letting him swim in any water or fully submerge but I don’t know what else to do! I’m really worried. I’ve never had ducklings before and I feel so dumb for not realizing they could jump 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️helpppp

Is the blood feather still bleeding? If not, she should be fine, if it is, you will need to apply some styptic powder or cornstarch to the feather, or pull the feather from the base. Do NOT do the latter without us giving instructions. A thorough external examination of the rest of her body for any signs of bruising/wounds wouldn't be a bad idea either.

And I really hope that you have already lowered or covered the cage because they will jump out again.
Yes. We lowered the cage to floor level and added a chicken wire fence area around it so that if they jump they land right in an area safe for them. We just finished the coop, would it be okay to move them into the coop with a heating lamp at night? It’s been in the 70s during day and 50s at night here. Sorry, that’s a bit unrelated.

That'd be fine, just watch for any signs of chilling. Make sure the heat lamp could survive an F5 tornado is what I say.

Okay. It’s not bleeding any more but I will keep and eye on it. I checked the rest of her body and she seems to have a yellow spot under some of her feathers near her butt? I’ll try to get a photo. Again she doesn’t seem to mind but I’m a bit worried..?!? My guess at this point is that she jumped and then landed on her back and got The blood feather stuck in the little gap between our floorboards... Not sure. I’ll add the picture if I can get it. She’s pretty fast
