Ok so I just went to check on them. The one facing the wrong direction has mostly broke out but about 1/4 of the fat end of the egg shell is stuck to its booty? I dont want to mess with it as it is finally doing something. Looks very weak. Finally making noise too not just muted beak opening. I have a feeling I'll be up most the night watching it. What's the dark semi clear yellow sticky stuff on it? Is that the yolk??I should have said to leave some shell along with the membrane as you want them to be able to get out their own. Let us know how it is going.

This is it. The baby wont let me get a decent picture. So nothing is actually attached that I can see. Looks bald a wee bit and belly button not closed all the way from what I've read. Moving but tired. Going to let it rest and check on it through the nightIt could be, which is why it wasn't hatching The way it should. Here is a post of what to do with a chicken that did not absorb the yoke.
"Hi! I am here to tell you that it isn't a death sentence! Put the chick in a cup (like a tea cup) lined with moist paper towels (to keep the yolk from sticking to the container). The yolk will absorb.
If it doesn't absorb before breaking open, please don't get upset! The next move is to treat the wound. Basically, just remember that the yolk is not a body part. It is the food for the first few days. If the yolk ruptures, the chick will need food and water right away rather than in a few days." I know this is about a chick, but a duck is similar. Hope this helps and praying that the baby will be okay.
